The beginning is quiet. Tender. Fleeting.
The first days with your baby often pass in a soft blur —
of closeness, tiredness, and a love so deep it feels almost unreal. This season isn’t meant to be rushed or perfected.
It deserves to be remembered gently —
in the tiny details, the warmth, the stillness of being together at home.
I’m Yana Balatskaya, a newborn photographer in Newcastle upon Tyne, capturing calm, natural, baby-led moments for families across the North East.

The Expirience
Each session is guided and photographed with intention.
Newborn sessions take place slowly and with great care, allowing time for feeding, soothing, and settling. There is no pressure to follow a schedule — your baby leads the rhythm of the session.
The result is a refined, timeless collection of images — honest, tender, and true to the beggining.

Jesmond Dene Newborn Session
It is not our first experience with Yana, and as always, she was fantastic. She has a truly unique eye and a calm, thoughtful approach that makes every session feel effortless. What she captures through her camera is always beatiful and never disappoint us.
Having returned to Yana after our maternity session for a newborn outdoor shoot, we once again felt completely confident and at ease. The images are timeless, natural, and full of feeling — we couldn’t be happier.
Maternity & Newborn Collection
Many families choose to combine their Maternity and Newborn sessions into one considered experience. This allows for a seamless. unhurried approach — documenting both the anticipation and the very beginning, with the same calm and intention.
When to Book
Newborn sessions are ideally photographed within first 7 — 21 days after birth, when your baby is still very small and naturally settled.
I recommend booking during pregnancy to ensure availability. Your session date is then confirmed once your baby arrives.
This experience is for
This experience is for parents who value subtlety over spectacle. For those drawn to calm, softness, and emotional depth.
For families who want to remember how these first days felt, not just how they looked.
If you are looking for a gentle, baby — led approach, you are in the right place.
